Charlie Hebdo: Responses from Cairo
The Cairo Foreign Press Association, in cooperation with the Global Forum for Media and Development, and the Center for Arab-West Understanding were delighted to invite you to an international conference on the recent terror incidents that took place in France.
The conference was held in InterContinental Cairo Semiramis hotel, at 05:00 to 07:00 PM on the 27th of January.
The terror attacks in Paris highlighted the urgent badly need for cooperation and dialogue between Europe and the Arab World – not only in response to the act itself, but also in the following outcry and exposure of European Muslim community in the aftermath of the event. Inexcusable as the attack was, it further highlighted contentions and the debate regarding the controversial nature of free speech and the importance of mutual cultural understanding.

Speakers were:
- Mona El-Saghir, General Secretary of the Global Forum for Media and development –Egypt-.
- Cornelis Hulsman, Deputy Chair of the Center for Arab-West Understanding.
- E. Mohamed Orabi, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt.
- Sheikh Dr. Anas Abu Shadi, Professor of comparative fiqh at the Azhar University.

The Forum acts as a contributor to change, a vehicle for policy-makers, practitioners and scholars, and an instrument for the revival of the almost extinct cultural goods of particular indigenous groups. It also serves as a platform for discussing media and development issues, and as a network with similar organizations and networks.
