Training Center for African Media Professionals in Cairo & its 44th session at the head quarters of the center of Maspiro
Center for Media Professionals Training was established in 1977 with a mission of training media professionals in the African continent on all sides of media skills. Now, under the High Council of Media in Egypt, a 6 weeks training program was organized during the center’s 44th annual convention for 29 broadcasting professionals from 13 countries including ( South Sudan, Sierra Leon, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Cameroon, Botswana, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya Uganda and Zambia.) The General Secretary of the Global Forum for Media and Development Egypt (GFMD) Mrs.Mona Elsaghir participate in some of training session which tackled a few very important subjects including Media Classification criteria and the global Classification system of the British Board of Film Classification BBFC, as well as violence in media and how to combat violence with a strong rating system that is applied on multimedia.
During the training sessions, a workshop was organized were attendees had to first hand rate a piece of content. The reports submitted by each country were very promising. The training session also referred to media and its role in developing societies, and some success stories were showcased about European Broadcasting unions and possible international collaborations between public service television entities and broadcasting unions that would spill over expertise to African countries.
The training was a great success with evident engagement from the attending professionals and trainers that was concluded in Cairo Egypt with a visit to the National council for women where trainees were welcomed by Dr. Maya Morsy, President of the National Council for Women, and Dr. Mona Omar, Head of the International Relations Committee at the National Council for Women and other committee members. The sessions at the NCW discussed the Mechanism of working with the NCW and possible ways of Egyptian African cooperation in the field of women development.

The Forum acts as a contributor to change, a vehicle for policy-makers, practitioners and scholars, and an instrument for the revival of the almost extinct cultural goods of particular indigenous groups. It also serves as a platform for discussing media and development issues, and as a network with similar organizations and networks.
